PALAZZO CAVOUR 2011

"Hybrid - DJAMEL TATAH"

Curated by Erik Verhagen

From November 2-6, 2011
at the Palazzo Cavour in Torino, Italy.

Djamel Tatah's pictorial approach is hybrid. Depicting human figures at a 1:1 scale, placed in geometric spaces, of which the most anecdotic aspects are willingly neutralized by the successive transfers of photography, digitalization, fragmentation, recomposition and the projection of a digital drawing on canvas. The dematerialized figures are reinvested with presence in their stasis of suspended animation.

If Djamel Tatah is clearly detached from the fashionable immediacy of current affairs, particularly so for questions relating to post-colonialism, his work is anything but indifferent. It absorbs a multiplicity of experiences, of entangled origins, of each and all's history in diversity
